Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan K.K., a sponsor of the Saitama Marathon, and the Saitama Marathon will collaborate in the area of resource recycling. On the day of the marathon (Monday, February 12, 2024), Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan K.K. will conduct “Bottle to Bottle” horizontal recycling of used plastic bottles collected at water stations, aiming to reduce waste in the marathon and to manage the marathon toward a sustainable society. Saitama Marathon and Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan K.K. collaborate on the “Bottle to Bottle” process.

Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Co., Ltd. will conduct a “Bottle to Bottle” program, reusing empty containers of beverages (PET bottled drinks) provided to runners at each water station on the race day. The used PET bottles discarded at the water stations will be collected after being sorted into three categories (caps, labels, and bottles) with the help of volunteer staff who will assist the runners with water supply. The collected PET bottles will be crushed, washed, and reused as raw materials for Coca-Cola products at the plants of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Co. In addition, “Bottle to Bottle” banners will be displayed at water stations and other locations along the course to promote understanding of recycling used PET bottles among participating runners, spectators, and other visitors.
