    Hello! I am Hitomi Niiya from Sekisui Chemical, and I have been appointed as the ambassador for Saitama Marathon 2025. I will be running alongside the runners on the day, cheering you on from nearby so that you can perform at your best!

    Profile

    She has been active as a top Japanese athlete since her junior days, winning the first section of the All Japan High School Ekiden for three consecutive years. After competing in the 2012 London Olympics (5000m) and placing 5th in the 10,000m at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, she retired from competition in 2014. After working as a company employee, she returned to racing in 2018. After competing in the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, her first world championships in about six years, she set a Japanese half marathon record in January 2020, the second-best Japanese record in the 5000m in September (at the time), and the Japanese 10,000m record in December of the same year, earning her a place at the Tokyo Olympics in the 10,000m. In 2023, she set a time of 2 hours 19 minutes 24 seconds (second-best Japanese record at the time) at the Houston Marathon.She is currently training hard to break the Japanese marathon record.
